GYPSUM PLASTERING WORK- HOW IT WORKS

Gypsum plastering is a popular method of finishing interior walls and ceilings. It’s made from gypsum, a mineral that, when mixed with water, forms a paste that can be applied as a smooth, durable layer. Here’s how it typically works:

Surface Preparation

Before applying gypsum plastering work, the surface of the wall or ceiling needs to be cleaned and prepped. Any dust, debris, or loose material should be removed. If the wall is too dry, it may be lightly dampened to help the plaster bond better.

Mixing the Plaster

Gypsum plastering work comes as a powder. It needs to be mixed with water to form a smooth, creamy paste. The mixing ratio varies, so it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Some formulations come pre-mixed and ready to apply.

Application

Once mixed, the gypsum plastering work is applied to the surface with a trowel or a similar tool. A thin layer is first applied, usually in multiple passes. For best results, it’s important to spread it evenly and avoid leaving any air pockets or imperfections.

Leveling and Smoothing

After the gypsum plastering work is applied, it’s smoothed out using a steel trowel. This step is crucial to create a flat, smooth surface. Sometimes, a second coat is needed for a finer finish, especially if the first layer has any uneven areas.

Drying

After the gypsum plastering work is applied and smoothed, it needs time to dry. Gypsum plaster typically sets and hardens fairly quickly, but depending on the thickness of the layer, it can take several hours to fully cure.

Finishing

Once dry, the surface is ready for any final touches. This could involve sanding to smooth out any remaining imperfections or adding a final coat of finishing plaster for an ultra-smooth look.
